Things to do

Yorkshire’s bustling 21st century capital, Leeds, has been christened 'Knightsbridge of the North'. Here, the world's leading fashion brands stand shoulder to shoulder with acclaimed art galleries and the imposing Grand Theatre and Opera House are just a minute's walk away. With so many stunning listed buildings and cultural landmarks to discover, time in the cosmopolitan Leeds is time well spent.

Wakefield is a diverse and historic city, offering heritage sites like Wakefield Cathedral, which boasts the tallest spire in Yorkshire and Sandal Castle. You will also find award-winning contemporary art at The Hepworth. Outside the city, you can explore the Yorkshire Sculpture Park or be at one with nature at one of the nearby nature reserves.

Immerse yourself in Hebden Bridge’s creative and bohemian past and discover where many artists and writers settled in the 70s and 80s. There are many other towns and villages close by, offering rock climbing for those in search of adrenaline, an array of traditional Yorkshire tea rooms and vast landscapes for long rambles.

Shopping

With three large cosmopolitan cities in the area, you’ll always find somewhere to get some retail therapy. Trinity Leeds is Leeds' newest and biggest shopping and leisure destination. Over 120 shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants, housed under a giant glass roof and open late for after work browsing. If you’re looking for something unique, head to the Corn Exchange for independent shops and vintage fashion.

Wakefield city centre offers two large shopping centres – Trinity Walk and The Ridings – full of favourite high-street retailers and independent shops alike. If you don’t want to break the bank, head to Junction 32 in Castleford. This large, open outlet mall brings big name brands and high-end fashion to West Yorkshire at discount prices.

Bradford is another shopper’s paradise with three large shopping centres and well-known department stores. But this culturally diverse city offers so much more than high-street chains. Bradford is also home to Bombay Stores, the UK's largest Asian department store. Here you can pick up beautiful fabrics, bespoke wedding outfits, jewellery, and footwear.

For unique gifts and treats for yourself, explore the enchanting ginnels of Pontefract or the winding lanes of Horbury and browse the array of independent boutiques and bookshops.

Transport

Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, and Huddersfield are all serviced by great transport links to other major cities in the UK. For those wanting to travel further afield, Leeds Bradford Airport is less than 10 miles from Leeds city centre.

All West Yorkshire’s cities have excellent bus services and Leeds benefits from an easy to use and affordable Metro system. Surrounded by many major motorways, West Yorkshire is well-connected and, whether you’re travelling for business or pleasure, you’ll have easy access to many other parts of the UK.

Food

There is something for every palette in West Yorkshire, from traditional pub grub and fish and chips to world-class Asian cuisine and award-winning, homemade Italian food.

Known as the “Merrie City” in the Middle Ages thanks to its plentiful food and drink options, Wakefield has made sure it doesn’t lose that title. From locally sourced independent eateries and thriving brunch spots to vegan cafes and contemporary Thai and Vietnamese restaurants, you won’t go hungry.

Experience authentic and delicious Asian cuisine in Leeds and Bradford as well as highly regarded chain restaurants and bars. A night out on the town is full of fun and adventure in Leeds with plenty of pubs, bars, and nightclubs to choose from.
