Transport in Dodworth

Any commuters will quickly become familiar with the A628, which you can reach in around 5 minutes by car from the development. Once on it, you can either head west through Penistone all the way to the outskirts of Manchester, or east into Barnsley’s centre.

There is also the M1 a 7-minute drive away, allowing residents to easily travel up to Leeds or down to Sheffield.

Your nearest port of call for railway travel will be Dodworth station, which offers hourly services to Sheffield and Huddersfield.

The closest bus stop to the development is Smithy Wood Lane/Saville Road a quick a 5-minute walk away. From there, you can hop onto the 22a/22c line into Barnsley, which runs every 15-20 minutes.

And for international travel, Leeds Bradford Airport is located 30 miles away, with Turkey, Cyprus and Romania just some of destinations you can fly to directly.

Things to do around Dodworth

With the Trans Pennine Trail a 7-minute walk from our new homes in Barnsley, exploring the area on foot and taking in nature has never been easier.

Golfers will want to head straight to the historical Silkstone Golf Club, a 6-minute drive away, or Barnsley Golf Club in nearby Mapplewell (17-minute drive), while those after more cultural expeditions will find Wentworth Castle Gardens less than 2 miles away.

For food, The Strafford Arms, serving great pub dishes, Sunday roasts and afternoon tea, can be reached in less than 20 minutes on foot. Dodworth is also home to Brooklands Restaurant, while the centre of Barnsley will provide more options, such as Falco Lounge and Favela Grill.

Food shops can be done at Central Co-op a 4-minute drive away, while The Glassworks in Barnsley town centre is ideal for any retail therapy, with the likes of Next, River Island and New Look all available.

Schools in Dodworth

The closest primary school to Smithy Wood Gate is Keresforth Primary School, reachable in less than 20 minutes on foot, catering to children between the ages of 3-11.

There are also other primary schools a bit further afield, such as Dodworth St John CofE Primary School (ages 3-11) 4 minutes away by car, Shawlands Primary School (ages 3-11) 11 minutes away by car and Joseph Locke Primary School (ages 3-11) a 13-minute drive away.

For secondary education, Horizon Community College (ages 11-16) is a 10-minute drive away and the destination for most primary school students in the area, as well as Barnsley Academy (also ages 11-16), 13 minutes away by car.

And for any parents looking for full daycare, Worsbrough Common Rising Stars (ages 1-7) is a 12-minute drive away, while Little Acorns Nursery (ages 2-11) is 3 miles away. Keresforth Primary School, Shawlands Primary School and Joseph Locke Primary School also offer some nursery services.
