Living in Hamilton

Transport in Hamilton

With the M74 a 10-minute drive from our new build homes in Hamilton, heading north to Glasgow or south to Lanark (or all the way down to Carlisle) is very easy. And if you fancy a day in Ayrshire, the M77 can be found 25 minutes away on the other side of East Kilbride.

There are two railway stations in Hamilton’s centre: Hamilton Central and Hamilton West. Both have regular services to Dalmuir (passing through Glasgow Central) and Cumbernauld in Lanarkshire.

The closest bus stop to Highstonehall is Turning Circle, located a 12-minute walk from the development. From there, you can catch the half-hourly 227 bus to anywhere in Hamilton, including the town’s main bus station.

And if you’re looking to fly somewhere sunnier for a well-deserved break, look no further than Glasgow Airport, which can be reached by car in around 30 minutes via the M74. With more than 100 destinations to choose from in Europe, Africa and even Barbados, you’ll be spoiled for choice.

Things to do around Hamilton

Located just 4 miles from our new homes in Hamilton is Chatelherault Country Park with 500 acres of countryside to explore thanks to 10 miles of pathways, as well as an adventure playground for the littles ones. It’s also located right next to the 18-hole Hamilton Golf Club.

For a family day out, Calderglen Country Park is a 15-minute drive from Highstonehall, where you can explore its zoo and a tropical conservatory.

Hamilton itself offers plenty of options if you’re looking for a good meal. John Carrigan’s Eating House serves a lot of pub classics, as well as a few meals with a twist, while the local Beefeater has hearty meals at affordable prices. Finally, if you’re looking for great coffee and a bite to eat, head straight to Peaky Grinders.

Weekly food shops can be done at the ALDI superstore less than 2 miles away, but if you want to shop until you drop, we recommend heading over to Scotland’s biggest undercover shopping centre, EK in East Kilbride, with over 180 shops to choose from.

Schools in Hamilton

With multiple primary schools within walking distance from our Hamilton new build homes, Highstonehall is a great location for young families to settle down.

The nearest primary school is St Mark’s Primary School, which can be reached on foot in 13 minutes, taking children all the way from P1 to P7 (ages 4-12). Other options a 20-minute walk or so away are Woodhead Primary School and Neilsland Primary School.

For secondary education, there is Hamilton Grammar School near Hamilton Central station (7-minute drive) and Holy Cross High School (10 minute by car) just beyond Hamilton West station. Both are for children aged 11-18 years of age.

Woodhead Primary School offers nursery services, but there are also several independent nurseries for the little one in the area. These include Hollandbush Nursery (6-minute drive) for children aged 3-5, Lilybank Nursery closer to the centre of town, also for children aged 3-5, and Casa dei Bambini (ages 2-5), which uses the Montessori approach of learning.

There is also local higher education available in Hamilton, as the University of West Scotland’s Lanarkshire Campus is a 10-minute drive from our development.
