Living in Doncaster

All of this, right on your doorstep

Located between the Peak District and the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape, Doncaster opens the door to acres of green space and national trust sites to explore, meaning there’s no excuse to spend a sunny weekend indoors.

Starting with the great outdoors, you’ll find the historic grounds of Cusworth Park, a Georgian estate built in the 18th century. Explore the parkland to discover the hidden walled garden, a secret spot set aside to grow flowers and fruit. And inside the hall itself, you’ll find a museum celebrating the daily life of Doncaster from the 1700s to the present.

If you want to spend time on or around water, Askern Boating Lake allows you to fish free of charge. There are also play areas, sports pitches, playgrounds and walking routes, all perfect for relaxing family evenings or daily morning jogs. To birdwatch, visit Potteric Carr, a waterbird haven reminiscent of Doncaster’s old fenlands.

Enjoy a day among animals at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, where polar bears, tigers, leopards and hyenas await you. Home to over 60 species, it is located a quick 20 minutes’ drive away from the town centre. For a more practical experience, visit Boston Park Farm, a working farm where the kids can meet rabbits, donkeys, goats and lambs.

Doncaster also brings leisure to the table with the Doncaster Dome, a sports complex boasting over 50 activities to enjoy. There, you’ll find the Big Splash waterpark, a split-level ice rink, a cycle track and gym, offering family fun to all ages.
