Things to Do in Keighley

Keighley is a West Yorkshire town in known for its thriving live music scene and being home to the first of the Carnegie Libraries (a series of libraries built by philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie – there are 2509 Carnegie libraries worldwide), which was erected in 1904, as well as one of the oldest cinemas in Britain, the Picture House Cinema, which was first opened in 1913.

A town that celebrates its history

Much of the town’s storied history is on full display at the popular Cliffe Castle Museum and, at the Bradford Police Museum and the Keighley Bus Museum, you can find some impressively restored Victorian Era memorabilia.

Keighley also still operates a heritage steam railway – the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway – offering a classic and more sophisticated way to get around.

Keighley & Worth Valley Railway also regularly put on shows – like the Railway Children – and host beer and music festivals. Keighley locals are able to apply for railway membership and it comes highly recommended!

A beautiful place to go hiking

The ideal place to live if you’re a keen hiker, Keighley is also close to the beautiful llkley Moor, which boasts incredible views of the surrounding Yorkshire countryside and is the inspiration for the unofficial Yorkshire County Anthem – On Ilkla Moor Baht'at (loosely translating to “On Ilkley Moor without a hat”) – by Bill Oddie. The home of the famous Cow & Calf rocks (named such due to their contrasting sizes), it makes for a scenic hiking trail.

Near the cultural hub that is Bradford
Only 8 miles away from Bradford City Centre, there are also a number of exciting things to do in Bradford, with its bevy of parks, museums and art galleries, as well as the stunning Bradford Alhambra, a beautiful building and one of the largest theatres in Bradford. The theatre also offers both casual and luxury dining options if you want to make a day of it!
Enjoy award winning beer . For beer enthusiasts, Keighley is also home to the award winning Timothy Taylor Brewery. With several of the pubs in Keighley owned by the brewery, you can expect to experience some of the finest pubs in West Yorkshire.

Convenient transport links
Situated on Shann Lane, Odette’s Point is only a short walk away from Keighley Railway Station where you can catch direct services to Leeds, Carlisle, Morecambe, Shipley, Bradford, and Bingley, amongst other destinations.

Brilliant selection of shops
Within Keighley itself, much of the local town centre is pedestrianised. Here you will find a number of large supermarket chains including Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Asda, as well as a few smaller independent stores. The town’s Airedale Shopping Centre is home to a number of independent retailers too and is one of Keighley’s most prominent features.

Home of Leeds College’s STEM facilities
Keighley is also known for its excellent STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) facilities, housing Keighley College – an offshoot of the reputable Leeds College. Featuring, amongst other state-of-the-art facilities, a mock mission control area and a planetarium, Keighley College is training the country’s next generation of scientists and academics that will carry the UK into the future.
