Living in West Lothian

All this, right on your doorstep

With a lot to do and see near our new homes in West Lothian, this part of Scotland is great for any explorers and adventurers regardless of their age.

History buffs will want to head to Linlithgow Palace to see where Mary Queen of Scots was born and check out the Linlithgow Museum to discover even more about the area’s history.

To have your children experience something unique, be sure to visit Polkemmet Country Park in Whitburn, which is where you’ll find the Scottish Owl Centre, home to more than 140 owls.

And if the kids want to see even more animals, then Five Sisters Zoo and Wee Eden in West Calder, as well as the Almond Valley in Livingston, are all worth a visit.

Furthermore, there are more than 30 play areas for children of different ages in parks across West Lothian, which makes this area the perfect place for families with children to settle down.

Transport in West Lothian

With two major motorways running through West Lothian, getting anywhere by car from our West Lothian new builds is very easy.

The M8 offers connections to Livingston, Edinburgh, and Glasgow, while the M9 connects West Lothian to other areas of Scotland like Stirlingshire, as well as other places across the Highlands.

West Lothian has 12 train stations in total connecting the area to Edinburgh and Glasgow, with the main one being Livingston North. Other major stations can be found at Bathgate and Linlithgow.

Getting around West Lothian by bus is made easy by having multiple bus operators across the area, including Lothian Country Buses and First Buses.

And if you’re looking to travel abroad, Edinburgh Airport and Glasgow Airport are within driving distance from anywhere in the area. With flights to places like Greece, Italy, and the USA, both airports offer great connections to more than 100 destinations worldwide.

Shopping in West Lothian

Without a doubt, one of the best places to shop in West Lothian is Livingston thanks to The Centre, which has more than 150 shops, several food places, and other leisure activities on offer, such as the climbing centre Aerial Adventures.

And if you’re after a bargain, then Livingston Designer Outlet is the biggest of its kind in Scotland and has more than 80 shops and places to eat.

For traditional Scottish produce, visit the Hopetoun Farm Shop in Broxburn, and if you enjoy markets, both the Linlithgow Artisan Market and the very popular West Lothian Producers Market are both worth a visit.

Plus, unlike bigger cities, the smaller towns and villages in the area each offer their own shopping experiences, whether it be through local markets or artisan shops. For example, the historic town of Linlithgow alone has over 300 businesses, allowing you to get lost in its alleyways, far from the usual bustle of shopping centres.
