Welcome to Lanarkshire, a historic county in south-central Scotland made up of South Lanarkshire and North Lanarkshire, bordering the likes of West Lothian, Midlothian and Stirlingshire.

Home to large towns like Hamilton and East Kilbride, and located near the bustling cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, you’ll find plenty of things to do in Lanarkshire, making it the perfect place to live for the likes of young professionals and families, among others.

With access to the River Clyde and many country parks and woodlands across Lanarkshire, you have the option for country walks with stunning sights whenever you please. Beyond this, for the history buffs, the county is also home to two out of four UNESCO World Heritage Sites found in Scotland.

Living in Lanarkshire

All of this, right on your doorstep

Out of all the places to visit near our new builds in Lanarkshire, the two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Antonine Wall and New Lanark, are a must. The former has a range of forts and remains you can explore, and you’ll also find the Silvanus Roman head sculpture there. As for the 18th-century village of New Lanark, it’s home to the Falls of Clyde Wildlife Reserve with its stunning waterfalls.

Both Calderglen Country Park and Zoo and Clyde Valley Family Park make for a great day out with the family, while another great destination for the family is Strathclyde Country Park, which is home to M&D's Theme Park, offering plenty of rides and Amazonia, an indoor tropical rainforest with exotic animals.

Annual music festivals that take place across the county include the family-friendly Musicfest Mainstage, which is part of the Bothwell Scarecrow Festival and takes place in September, as well as the Stereofunk Festival.

Transport in Lanarkshire

Many major roads run through the county, meaning travelling by car from our new builds in Lanarkshire is very straightforward. The M8 offers connections to Glasgow, Edinburgh and other places in the east or west of Scotland, such as Renfrewshire. Other major roads include the M74 for any trips south to England, as well as the A9, M80, and M73.

There are more than 40 train stations across Lanarkshire. The main railway hubs in East Kilbride and Glasgow offer connections to other major cities of Scotland, including Edinburgh, Inverness, Aberdeen and Stirling.

With both Glasgow Prestwick Airport and Glasgow Airport close by, those in search of sunnier climates further afield are in luck. Glasgow Prestwick offers a limited number of flight destinations to the likes of Spain and Italy, while Glasgow Airport has a more extensive destination list, taking you to places like Mexico and Jamaica.

Shopping in Lanarkshire

The county offers plenty of opportunities for retail therapy with many great shopping centres found near our new build homes in Lanarkshire.

EK in East Kilbride is one of the biggest shopping centres in Scotland, with more than 150 shops. You’ll also find a cinema, a library, plenty of food and drink options, and even an ice rink here.

Antonine Shopping Centre in Cumbernauld has over 30 shops on offer, including fashion retailers as well as a few food places. If you’re in Hamilton, the Regent Shopping Centre will be your go-to. This shopping centre is perfect for families with its seasonal events, including Easter activities and Santa visits.

And if you find yourself in nearby Glasgow, the Style Mile in the city centre is not to be missed. This area is home to St. Enoch Centre, Ingram Street, Buchanan Galleries, Buchanan Quarter, Princes Square, and more.

Restaurants in Lanarkshire

Anyone looking at our new homes in Lanarkshire will be glad to know the area has a diverse range of restaurants to choose from.

A taste of authentic Italian food in Hamilton can be found at Gusti D'Italia, while Twenty-One and Rocca are also great options where chefs use the finest Scottish ingredients to prepare Italian dishes.

For family dining in East Kilbride, you’ll find Di Maggio’s. This restaurant offers indoor and outdoor play areas and an outdoor terrace. As for great seafood, be sure to check out Once Upon A Table, but if you’re after Thai dining, pay a visit to Mekong Restaurants.

Other restaurants worth mentioning include SmithS in Uddingston serving French and European dishes, Inn on the Loch in Lanark, which has European pub grub on offer, and Owen's Bar in Coatbridge, which is family-run and has been around for more than 50 years.

Great fine dining options can be found in nearby Glasgow, which is home to UNALOME by Graeme Cheevers and Cail Bruich, which both have one Michelin star.
