Tell us a little bit about yourself: 

I’m originally from the South East and decided in 2021 to relocate to the North East after accepting a new job offer. I work in sales within the private healthcare industry and tend to work from home most of the time, so it feels great to be able to now be in a house that I love being in. Before buying with Avant, I was living in another new build property which was my first home. As much as I loved that house, I desired something bigger and detached for more peace and quiet for working. 

Which house type did you buy and why did you choose it?

I bought a 3 bedroom Ivybridge. I was previously looking at another plot on the Summerville Quarter development a couple of doors down (The Hivebridge) but decided to look at the Ivybridge and fell in love with it in minutes. With it being a corner plot, it comes with a large front and rear garden, which is a huge bonus as I have never had this before. I also liked the generous spacing between the houses, rather than homes being built on top of one another. Whilst the Ivybridge plot was slightly out of my budget, I had my heart set on the plot, and I just made it work! 

Why did you choose Avant Homes over other developers? 

I previously visited Summerville Quarter in 2021 when I was looking for my first home and received exceptional service from the sales team. So, I thought I would pop back when I started looking for my second home. I love the style of Avant’s homes. The size of the gardens are also so much bigger than other developers. 

Why did you choose to buy a new build property over a second-hand home?

It was mostly for ease. With not being from the area and not having much family around, it made sense to purchase a new build, so I didn’t have to do much work on the house. Plus, a new build home comes with some perks such as it’s a total blank canvas and you can decorate it however you like!

Did you make use of any schemes?

Yes, it used the My Move Made Easy scheme. It was a really simple process and Avant did all the chasing up. 

How did you find the buying process?

The sales team made the process easy for me, including being on hand whenever I had any questions or wanted to pop down and visit my plot. They helped chase any updates with my solicitor and the estate agents, which took away a lot of stress and hassle. The team were also very transparent with house updates, which made the whole process so much better. 

What do you love about your Avant Home?

It has to be the garden space! I’ve never had a proper front garden in my previous homes, it’s so nice to have outdoor space. 

I also love the large hallway as you walk in, in my previous home I didn’t have a proper hallway so it’s great to have such a large, bright area. Having previously owned a 3 bed semi-detached townhouse which was quite small and narrow, it massively lacked storage space. Whereas in my new home the kitchen has fantastic storage space, I love the layout and how the sink area is separate. I also love that all of my three bedrooms are fantastic sizes and can easily fit a double bed and wardrobes in without feeling cramped.

Did you go for any upgrades from Avant’s optional extra range?

I didn’t add on any extras, as the plot was pretty much ready when I reserved. Avant had already included quartz worktops which was a real bonus, and they look fantastic.

How has your life changed since you moved into your Avant Home?

I’ve found the additional space and storage has been a huge bonus, especially with me working from home. Having a dedicated room for a home office is amazing! My mental health has also massively improved since being in a such a peaceful detached home. I feel very settled and have started to do a bit of decorating to make it more homely, including having my rear garden landscaped. I love that I’ve found a place that I can truly call home. If ever I’m away, I now look forward to returning home which I’ve never experienced before. Everyone living on the development is very friendly and I’ve made friends with a few people which is lovely.

Do you have any tips for anyone looking to buy with Avant Homes?

Get to know your sales team, as they are the ones who can help with incentives, plot updates and will be there for you throughout the full process. If there isn’t a show home of the exact house type you are looking to buy, make sure to still look around the show homes they have. This will help you see the type of build expectations and what’s included as standard. 

Is there anything else you want to add about your home buying journey?

Overall, I had a positive home buying journey with Avant. The sales team shared my excitement to get into my new home and that really made the whole experience so much more enjoyable.
