Tell us a little bit about yourselves: 

We’ve been together for seven years, married for almost three with a two-year-old boy called Jacob and a rescue dog called Frankie. I am originally from this area and always wanted to stay close to my family. Whereas Ben is from Gloucester, he moved here after we graduated from university. This is our second home, but first new build. In our spare time we love paddle-boarding and walking, but we spend most of our time chasing around after Jacob. 

Which house type did you buy and why did you choose it?

We bought the Fernlee, a three bedroom semi-detached home. We love the floorplan, as it’s different to other three bedrooms we had previously looked at. It’s side facing, so there’s a spacious entrance hall between the kitchen and living room. We liked how it was a corner plot, meaning every room has two windows making it very light. 

Why did you choose Avant Homes over other developers? 

We’d read lots of good reviews online about Avant, but it really came down to Peter our Sales Advisor. He was so responsive, from our very first enquiry to the many, many questions that came after that. 

Why did you choose to buy a new build property over a second-hand home?

After renovating our last property, we wanted a property that was a blank canvas from the start. Renovating took longer than we thought and there were a lot of hidden issues along the way. A new build would not need any work doing to it and was somewhere we could move into straight away.

How did you find the buying process?

With using the My Move Made Easy scheme, it made our buying process much easier. We got lucky in that our property sold in a week! We also used the legal team recommended by Avant which worked really well. Peter was such a huge help as well, if we did hit any snags or had questions, he was right on hand to support and offer advice. He was a massive part of making this process enjoyable for us.

What do you love about your Avant home?

We love the red brick and the overall look of the house externally. Ben would say the outside tap! We also love how light our home is inside, because of the window placement of our corner plot. 

Did you go for any upgrades from Avant’s optional extra range?

We chose to upgrade to shaker-style cabinets in our kitchen, as well as an induction hob. In the main bathroom we had the electric shaver outlet, heated towel rail and shower screen added to the bath. To make life easier we had built-in wardrobes fitted in the master bedroom, an outside tap on the back of our home and flooring/carpets fitted throughout, rather than doing it ourselves. 

How has your life changed since you moved into your Avant Home?

Our new home has given us much more space than we had previously. Jacob has a bigger room, which is great for all his toys! We have room for our dining table, so we can have proper family meals together which wasn’t possible in our old house. Our garden is completely secure, we can let Frankie out and Jacob can play outside. 

Do you have any tips for anyone looking to buy with Avant Homes?

Just be honest with the sales team from the get-go, about any doubts or concerns you may have about purchasing a new build home. In our experience, they will go above and beyond to support and accommodate you where possible.

We’ve had a very positive journey with Avant and would just like to thank Peter, Lyndsay and Gary for helping us move into our dream home.
