Moving into your first home is an exciting but sometimes daunting time for first time buyers, but there’s no need to worry! Follow our top tips on moving home and make move-in day stress free.

Measure first, buy second

Fortunately, when buying an Avant home, we’ll be able to provide you with measurements for each of the rooms in your brand-new house. It’s important to refer to these measurements when picking out furniture to avoid having to send it all back on move-in day.

Consider how you’ll get larger pieces of furniture into your home and if you’ll require additional move in services for heavier items like tables and cupboards to avoid causing any damages to walls/doors when moving in.

Contact your utility suppliers

If you’re currently renting a home, to ensure your move goes smoothly, contact your current utility suppliers prior to moving and make the necessary changes to ensure a clean transition when you move. If you’re moving out of your parent’s home, you won’t need to worry about this!

Moving homes is a good opportunity to shop around for any deals on your utility bills and with a brand-new energy efficient Avant home you should expect to see some savings on your bills*.

Introduce yourself to your new neighbours

One of the benefits of moving onto a new build development is the community that comes with it – you’ll have something in common with each of your neighbours when moving into an Avant home!

Your new neighbours might be able to help you with any questions you have about your new home, and you could even steal some style inspiration from them too. So introducing yourself to them sooner rather than later is a good idea.

Pack a box of essentials

It’s easy to pack everything up when moving home without making a dedicated box for any essential items you absolutely need during the first few days of your move. Picture this – you’ve unpacked half of your belongings on move-in day, it’s getting late, and your toothbrush is still nowhere to be seen…what a disaster!

Packing an “essentials” box will allow you to have easy access to those items – we recommend packing toiletries, electronics and important documents (which you’ll need when contacting your utility suppliers) and labelling the box.
