Our guide to throwing the ultimate summer garden party

Whether it’s your first-time hosting or your 50th, throwing a successful summer party comes with its challenges. Follow our guide and learn all the best tips and tricks in making sure your party stands out this summer.

Prepare for the weather

It’s no secret that the summer weather in the UK doesn’t always deliver clear skies and warm temperatures. Make sure that your prepared for the worst – we recommend hiring a gazebo which will provide you with some much-needed cover if it rains on the day!

On the flip side, paddling pools are a great way of keeping your children attendee’s cool and content if the sun is out. And for the slightly older crowd, a hot tub is a perfect addition to a summer garden party and great for soaking up the summer sun.

Create a drink station

An essential part of any summer garden party is a drinks station. Elevate yours with a glass drinks dispenser – Robert Dyas stock a vintage copper set up that would be perfect for a garden party. Remember to include garnishes for an added flair and top up regularly with ice!

Food

The beloved picky bits lunch is an absolute staple for any summer garden party – consider your attendee’s dietary requirements and if you want something more substantial, don’t be afraid to bring out the BBQ.

If you’re looking for some dish inspiration, there’s plenty of easy, online BBQ recipes to follow!

Some of our favourites are the “Easy halloumi burgers” which are a great option for vegetarians and the “Chicken satay skewers” which are guaranteed to be a hit with even the pickiest of eaters.

Music

Every party needs some form of music. It’s a great way of setting the ambiance for your guests. Whether you’re creating your own playlist, playing a pre-made one or simply putting the radio on – all you’ll need is a portable speaker/sound system.

If you’re partying into the night – it’s best to pre-warn your neighbours or even better, invite them along! One of the benefits of living in a newly built development is the community that comes with it

Lighting

Now your summer garden party doesn’t have to stop when the sun goes down; lighting is another way of setting the ambiance of your party. Decorate trees with string, bulb lighting, lay out electric “candles” and of course, set up the fire pit.

Fire pits are a great focal point of a summer party, remember to set up enough seating and of course; no fire pit would be complete without a bag of marshmallows for toasting!
