We all hunker down in winter trying to keep warm and cosy, but as the weather is warming up and the daffodils are starting to flower you know Spring is in the air and now is the perfect time to blow the cobwebs away and spring clean your home.

Where to start

It can be pretty daunting to tackle the whole house, so break it down into a manageable task, start with a list and write down what you want to achieve in each room. Then decide on the priorities, you might want to start on an easier task such as decluttering your wardrobe, when you drop several black bags off at the charity shop it gives you the motivation to carry on.

Cleaning tips and tricks

Did you know you can clean wooden chopping boards by cutting a lemon in half, dip in salt and rub across the surface, leave for 10 minutes and clean off with a cloth?

To freshen up your carpets simply sprinkle  over bicarbonate of soda and leave for 10 minutes and vacuum away, you can even mix with a little water for a stain remover.

Get rid of smells in your microwave with a bowl of hot water and lemon slices just turn on full power for 30 seconds and leave to sit for 15 minutes to deodorise.

A 50% white vinegar and 50% water solution can be used with hot water to clean limescale off stainless steel taps.

Decluttering

Organise your cupboards, by sorting out items into storage boxes will not only make a much tidier appearance you’ll be able to locate items much quicker.

Give your wardrobe an airing and store winter clothes into boxes and place under the bed or neatly in cupboards. Add a scented dehumidifier to keep moisture and damp at bay.

Make use of clever storage solutions such as a footstool with hidden storage, ideal for storing blankets, books and magazines.

Discard toiletries and cosmetics that have been hanging about and gone out of date, tidy the rest by using trays and cubes to compartmentalise your drawers.

When you’ve finished you can sit back and relax with a well-earned cup of tea, in a sparkling fresh home. If you’ve recently undertaken a Spring clean in your Avant home, we’d love to see it.
