If you’re expecting a new addition to your family, you might have started thinking about creating a nursery for your little one, ready for their arrival. A nursery should include three separate spaces for sleeping, feeding and changing - comfort and practicality should be key. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when putting together a nursery, so we’ve put together the most important things to consider to turn your empty room into a functional space.

Choosing the perfect cot

In the first few years of your little ones life, they’ll be doing a lot of sleeping. So it’s important to get a strong, sturdy and safe cot for your baby, which has enough room for growing. The mattress should fit snug in the cot and it’s ideal to have a cot with adjustable mattress heights. Place your cot in a place that’s free from drafts and direct sunlight, making sure it’s easily accessible for those late-night feeds.

Keep it cosy

Creating a cosy and soothing environment is key for a nursery. Find a theme or colour scheme that complements the rest of your home and your personal style. Set the mood just right with adjustable, soft lighting, not forgetting the nightlight to make those late-night feeds a breeze. Cosy up your nursery with soft rugs and blankets and give your baby uninterrupted sleep with the help of black out curtains.

A handy changing table and nursing chair

Up your parenting game with a changing table that has everything you need, storage for nappies, wipes and all the essentials to make baby changes quick and easy.

A nursing chair isn’t just an investment in comfort, it’s one of the most useful and long-lasting purchases you’ll make for your nursery. From arm height to seat shape, every feature of a nursing chair is made to make feeding a comfier experience.

Plenty of cuddly toys

You can never have enough cuddly toys in a nursery! Transform those nap time tears into giggles by giving them a cuddly companion to cosy up too. They are a great way to bring your baby some comfort when you aren’t close by to them as they can hold your scent.

Storage and organisation

Make sure to incorporate plenty of storage into your nursery such as drawers, shelves and baskets. One of the most important pieces of furniture for your nursery is a wardrobe, for storing all you little ones outfits. If you’re short on space you might want to consider wall-mounted storage.

When you’re expecting you might want to create a beautiful nursery for your baby’s arrival, but its important when putting it together to make sure the design is flexible and can be easily adapted throughout their childhood.
