The Christmas tree is the centrepiece of our festive celebrations. Whether you're decorating with loved ones, opening gifts, or simply enjoying the moment, the tree is a focal point of any home during the festive season. So when it comes to choosing an artificial Christmas tree for your new home, it can be a challenge with so many options available. Here’s a few of our tips to help you choose the right one!

Size

Christmas trees come in a range of sizes but what is the right size to go for? First, you’ll need to ensure your tree suits your space, so you’ll need to decide where you’ll place your tree. The most common places for a tree are the living room, hallway and dining room. Once you’ve chosen your space you can measure up! Measure the distance between your floor and ceiling to determine what tree height will fit, taking into consideration for a tree topper if needed.

Smaller, 5ft trees are perfect for smaller living spaces like kid’s rooms, if your home has a low ceiling or even to place on tabletops. If you have a standard ceiling go for a 7 foot tree, but if your room has a high ceiling you can opt for a tree that’s 8 – 12 feet tall.

Shape

After determining the ideal tree height, narrow down your choices by shape. The most common is the regular, full Christmas tree, featuring the traditional look of real trees. However, you could opt for a slim tree which is perfect for tighter spaces or corners of a room. If you’re really struggling for space, many retailers now offer a flatback Christmas tree, creating a space-saving solution for your home.

Colour

When deciding on the colour of tree to go for, you’ve got a few options. The classic green tree is a timeless choice for many homes, complementing nearly any décor style. Or if you want to recreate the look of real snow in your home, a snow-flocked tree gives a frosty, wintry appearance. There is also the option of having a coloured tree, anything from pink to black. It all depends on what will complement your decorations.

Lights

This is the final decision you'll need to make to choose the perfect tree for you. Lights are key to make your Christmas tree sparkle, even without decorations. If you're someone who dreads the hassle of untangling Christmas lights, a pre-lit tree might be the perfect solution. However a pre-lit tree means you may have to maintain the same colour themes until you opt for a new tree.

If you choose to add your own lights, aim for at least 100 lights per foot of tree height. If you’re after a brighter, more vibrant display, consider doubling or even tripling that amount. You’ll be able to choose any colour or style of lights you like, however, this does require a lot more effort than a pre-lit tree and can be very time-consuming.

Choosing the right Christmas tree is all about finding the perfect balance between space and style. And once you’ve chosen your ideal tree, you’ll be able to create a festive focal point which will bring warmth and joy to your home for many years to come.
