5 ways to make your living room festive

The nights are getting darker, the weather is getting colder… it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! With the festive season quickly approaching here are some tips to help your new home feel as merry and cosy as possible.

1. Festive diffusers and candles

Nothing says Christmas like the warm smell of home cooking, smouldering log fires or comfy cups of hot chocolate. We think it’s important to maintain these snug smells and how better than a festive themed diffuser or candle.

With plenty of smells to choose from, shops like Dunelm or Next won’t break the bank but brands like Neom offer diffusers that would make excellent gifts or even a treat for your very own home.

2. Fake foliage

No Christmas decoration is complete without the tree, the holly or the wreath on the door. But if you want the full Christmas look without the mess of real greenery inside your new home, fake foliage is the way to go.

Bringing the outdoors indoors can be messy but fake foliage gives the real look of that classic Christmas decor but without having to do the sweeping up or risk touching the prickly ends of real holly. Shops like The Range are perfect places to buy fake plants to get that “real” Christmas look this year.

3. Christmas lighting

Christmas time means dark nights cuddled up in front of that warm glow of the fire. But even without the fireplace you can achieve that homely feel with some smart lighting choices.

Fairy lights, warm white lightning, dimmable and smart lighting will definitely achieve that comfortable seasonal vibe. With the right lighting you can truly transform your living space into a winter wonderland.

4. Stockings

A reminder that Christmas is truly here… the sight of the stocking! A classic festive staple that excites all the family. If gifts in a stocking isn’t enough to get you ready for Christmas, then what is!

For each member of the family a stocking above the fireplace is essential. Filled with gifts and fun, a stocking will really wrap your Christmas living space together.

5. Hand crafted decorations

Christmas is for time with loved ones and by adding your own DIY Christmas decorations to your living space, will really add that extra personal touch. Making your own hand-crafted decorations is a great activity to involve all the family to get into the Christmas spirit.

From DIY paper snowflakes, custom baubles or paper plate angels, these unique decorations will add a real festive feel to your Christmas and your living room, whilst also making new memoires in your new home.
