Things to do

The resort town of Blackpool is known for its family friendly feel. The town is home to several theme parks, including Blackpool Pleasure Beach, as well as a Sea Life aquarium and Blackpool Zoo. For the little ones, Peter Rabbit Explore and Play and Gruffalo and Friends Clubhouse are guarantees to put a smile on their faces.

Preston also has its fair share of fun and games, with Wacky World Inflatable Park being a popular indoor play area. Those seeking more thrills will find them at TeamSport Go Karting, who cater for all ages from 8+.

Then there’s Lancaster, which hosts annual jazz and music festivals in September and October respectively. What’s more, it’s one of the largest professional studio theatres in Europe – The Nuffield Theatre – housed at Lancaster University.

Shopping

Preston is one of the best cities for shopping in Lancashire, being home to the St George’s Shopping Centre and the Grade II listed Miller Arcade – a three storey indoor shopping centre with a wide selection of retail outlets and restaurants, ranging from Mowgli Street Food to luxury dessert house Haute Dolci.

Preston’s markets are also engrained into its cultural identity, with its fish market and covered market being particularly popular.
In terms of the retail scenes in some of the other major cities and towns in Lancashire, Blackpool has the Houndshill Shopping Centre.
Blackburn offers The Mall, and Lancaster has the likes of Marketgate and St Nicolas Arcades.

Transport

Lancashire has its own hub for flights in Blackpool Airport.

Blackpool also has a tramline that runs through the resort town and is connected to other towns and cities in Lancashire, like Preston and Poulton-le-Fylde, by rail.

Additionally, the commuter friendly city of Lancaster offers direct train services to London, as well as services to the likes of Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, and Manchester.

From Preston, you can grab a direct train to Manchester Airport or a service to London, Cumbria, Edinburgh, Glasgow, the Lake District, and Yorkshire.

Blackburn similarly offers services to Manchester, Burnley, Clitheroe, Colne, Leeds, and York.

Food

Lancashire offers a good selection of restaurants.

Lancaster is known for its Victorian-aesthetic pubs, with gastropubs like The Borough and The Wagon and Horses combining pretty brick exteriors with traditional pub grub made from locally sourced ingredients.

Preston offers an international mix of cuisines, ranging from French bistros like Bistrot Pierre to the popular Caribbean chain, Turtle Bay.

In Blackburn, you’ll find lovely Asian-fusion restaurants like MyLahore, and halal-friendly restaurants, such as Kebabish Original.

As a popular holiday destination, Blackpool is all about its family friendly casual dining spots, with Americana diners like the West Coast Rock Café promising tasty burgers, steaks and ribs in a lively atmosphere, and Italian restaurants like Fontana Ristorante Italiano offering up a wide array of authentic pasta and pizza dishes.
