Transport in Willington

Our new homes near Durham are located midway between the A68 to Edinburgh and the A167 to Newcastle. Drive a little further out to reach the A1(M), giving you straight access to Leeds and the rest of the country, or to the A688 through Newfield to reach Bishop Auckland.

The nearest bus stop is 3 minutes away on foot, serving Arriva’s X46 service between Stanhope and Durham, and Weardale Travel’s 109 service to Bishop Auckland via Oakenshaw, making any local travel very convenient.

For trains, the closest railway station is in Bishop Auckland, located less than 15 minutes away by car. The station runs hourly services to Saltburn, stopping at various towns and villages along the way, such as Darlington, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Longbeck.

Things to do around Willington

There are three local gyms within a 2-mile radius of our new builds. Football fans will be glad to know Willington AFC’s stadium is just 20 minutes away on foot, while Jubilee Nature Area is a 16-minute walk away for family hikes.

For retail therapy, Durham is a quick drive away, with three shopping centres in the city: The Riverwalk, Walkergate and Prince Bishops Place.

There are also plenty of local restaurants around the development, such as The Burn Pub & Kitchen in Willington, and both The Copper Mine and Viva Italian in nearby Crook.

Head to Brancepeth Castle for a cultural day out, 4 minutes by car up the A690, or visit Auckland Castle Deer House, the North Pennines National Landscape, Hardwick Hall, or the Locomotion Museum for more activities.

Schools in Willington

Children between 3 and 11 years of age benefit from a choice of four schools near our new homes in Willington. The closest is St Stephen's CofE Primary, a 19-minute walk away from Westward Green.

Sunnybrow Primary School, Willington Primary School and Our Lady & St Thomas Catholic Primary School (all ages 3-11) are also located within a 2-mile radius.

Parkside Academy is the local secondary for children between 11-16 and is a 20-minute walk away.

For the little ones, Nurserytime (ages 1-6) and Little Stars Early Years (ages 2-4) are both located less than a 5-minute drive away from the development.
