Faces behind the build - Alicia Hattersley

Our team put our customers at the heart of everything they do, so to find out more about the 'Faces behind the build', we've been speaking to members of our team to find out more about who they are, what they do and what they enjoy most about their job.

This month, we caught up with Group Head of Marketing, Alicia Hattersley! 

1. What does a typical day look like for you?  

No two days are the same! A typical day could involve working on marketing strategy and performance against KPIs, site visits seeing our developments in the flesh, meeting with our regions to discuss how each development is performing and providing recommendations, reporting back on the success of our marketing channels, or something much more creative (my favourite bits) such as working on exciting content, collateral, and website projects. 

2. What do you enjoy the most about your job?

I love seeing ideas created by the marketing team come to life, some personal favourites in my time at Avant have been our website launching, rolling out our new signage, and seeing our new marketing suite layout on site for the first time. 

3. How did you get into your role? 

I did a degree in Multimedia Journalism but then naturally fell into marketing roles as I found that my passion was telling brand stories. I worked at several agency and in-house roles before getting into housebuilding. I really love the sector and when the opportunity to apply for my role at Avant came up it was a no brainer.  

4. Why did you want join Avant Homes?

Avant has gone through a big period of change, and it’s been amazing to be a part of that change! I was attracted to Avant because the business is progressive and adaptable and has a lot of talented people working for it who I can learn from. Our vision of quality homes, for everyone resonates with me and it gives me great job satisfaction to know that the work that the marketing department do helps others get onto the property ladder and move into the home of their dreams. 

5. What would you say are skills you need to possess to be successful in your role?

To be successful in marketing it’s important to be able to work at a fast pace and adapt priorities quickly. It’s also key to be creative, a good problem solver, and be analytical. I’d also say the most important thing is to be happy at work and be passionate about what you do, I absolutely love my job and am always excited to come to work and get stuck in! 

6. What would you say to anyone looking to get into the housebuilding sector?

Go for it! Housebuilding is an incredibly rewarding sector. There’s so much more that goes into building a house than meets the eye and it’s truly fascinating to witness the hard work that every department in the business puts in from land, to sales, to customer services and everyone in between. 

7. What do you like to do outside of work?

I enjoy a good pamper, I’m always squeezing in time to have a facial, or nail, lash, hair, and brow appointments! I also like to spend time with my friends and family, and I particularly enjoy cooking and hosting for others. 

8. Tell us a fun fact about yourself that your colleagues wouldn't know about you?

My fun fact is that I am a celebrity encyclopaedia and can remember the most obscure things about people in the public eye. 

9. If you could swap jobs which any other person in the company, who would it be and why?

I would swap jobs with Tom Smith our Group Head of Architectural Design, as I think designing our house types would be fun!
