You won’t be short of things to do in Scotland, with plenty of sights to see, family-friendly activities and attractions on offer.

The two biggest cities, Edinburgh and Glasgow offer shopping, heritage, museums, theatre, and an array of places to eat and drink, meaning there are things to do every night of the week.

Edinburgh Castle is a 12th Century fortress and has seen some of Scotland’s biggest conflicts - a great place to take the family to learn all about the history of this magnificent city. A stroll up Arthur’s Seat gives stunning views of Edinburgh and the castle. The Royal Mile is where lovers of the arts flock every summer for the world-famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival and year-round offers bars, cafes, and independent shops.

You could easily fill your time exploring the different neighbourhoods and enjoying the amazing shopping, dining, and attractions in Glasgow. Maybe you'll see the best of Glasgow’s unique architecture on a city walking tour or taste your way around the city on a food excursion.

When it comes to entertainment, events, and great days out in Glasgow, you don't have to look far - over a hundred Glasgow gigs take place every week. If you’re after something quirky and off-beat, then keep your eye out for vibrant festivals and special pop-up Glasgow events.

Dundee is closer to the countryside than any other Scottish city. Explore the area, take in the heritage and culture, eat, drink and shop in the city centre or check out the array of entertainment on offer - both during the day and after dark. Just four miles to the east of Dundee city centre lies the seaside suburb of Broughty Ferry, known as "the jewel in Dundee's crown”. With a fine esplanade and sweeping sands provide the perfect place for a relaxing stroll or a quiet picnic.

Wanting to explore further afield? The Highlands is the Scotland of your imagination. Think big skies, mind-blowing landscapes, superb food, and hospitable people. There's a natural playground which begs to be explored, while the region's turbulent history has left behind some of the most beautiful and romantic castles in the world.

A Highlands exploration will see you get lost - not literally - in the majestic mountains and mysterious lochs, pass through Britain's largest National Park, witness dolphins frolicking off the Moray Coast, marvel at the sensational seascape of the North Highlands, walk in the shadow of Britain's highest peak, Ben Nevis, or explore the stunning islands and stretches of coastline.

Shopping

From the miles of shops in the city centres to the independent boutiques in Scotland’s towns, you'll find a great choice on the main streets. Head for the city centres for a selection of high street, designer, independent, food and drink shops and much more.

Once you've seen the beautiful views, you'll understand why hundreds of artists, designers and craftspeople are inspired to make so many wonderful products. Think unique jewellery, fashion, Harris Tweed, pottery and even tasty food and drink. Look out for little shops everywhere you go - they're not just on the main streets, but will often be down by the harbour, in art galleries or even on countryside farms.

Besides a great choice of shops, markets and fairs are often held across the country. Choose from hundreds of farmers' markets, art fairs and vintage clothing events. During major festivals, look out for pop-up events and stalls which bring together a wide range of producers offering fantastic items for you to browse, buy and take home.

Transport

Scotland has an extensive railway network, with links across the country, connections to England and commuter links to the major cities north and south of the border.

With five international airports in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and Inverness, travelling further afield is made easy with 3 airports within easy driving distance of our developments. With motorways and A roads linking the Lowlands to the Highlands and Scotland to the rest of the UK, travelling by road, be it for business or pleasure, is made simple.

Food

Scottish cuisine is renowned for its unrivalled quality. From Aberdeen Angus beef, Stornoway Black Pudding, Arbroath Smokies and Shetland salmon to Scottish liquors and freshly baked scones and shortbread, Scotland is a culinary heaven for food lovers.

Think of traditional Scottish dishes, and one thing that immediately comes to mind is haggis. This delicious Scottish staple food has a long and famous history and is a must-try for anyone settling in Scotland.

You'll find an array of farmers' markets and shops across the country, selling everything from fresh eggs, seafood, artisan cheese, and hand-picked vegetables, to organic meat.

It would be amiss to make roots in Scotland and not try the vast array of homegrown whiskies on offer. There are over 130 active whisky distilleries spread across Scotland, which are split into five whisky-producing regions: Campbeltown, Highland, Islay, Lowland and Speyside. Where a whisky is made can have a huge bearing on its flavour, everything from the source of the water to the presence of peat in the local area will come through in the taste, so there is plenty of opportunity to pour yourself a dram and find one you love.
